The Tempest day 8.

Today we explored the relationship between Prospero and Caliban, who feels powerless as the previous sole resident of the island. Prospero holds power over Caliban and Ariel.

Ariel is bound to Prospero as a servant, but as a spirit can fly. Some children volunteered to try that out! Well done to the children who helped to make that possible.

The Tempest day 7.

Working with a section of the text, the children identified parts of the ship and laid it out on the floor. They then became the spirit Ariel and created the storm around the ship to sink it at the island.

The Tempest day 6.

Today we developed our ideas of how the people on the ship would react in the storm. The children recognised how traumatic the experience would be. Those in charge of the ship would have no control, those who were passengers would be petrified.  Again, we used text from the play and the children became more familiar with the language of the time.

The Tempest day 5

Today we worked with a larger passage of text and examined the back story of the key characters Prospero and Miranda.
It was quite a challenge, but the children were able to act out their removal from Milan and arrival on the island.

The Tempest day 4.

We continued to explore themes and relationships and today began to introduce lines of text from the script.

The Tempest day 3

More activity today,  with the children adopting statue poses to indicate relationships between characters. Some amazing successes, especially where the characters were in conflict!

The Tempest.

This week we have started to find out about Shakespeare's play The Tempest. We have begun to explore key themes of power, control and confusion using interactive approaches.

The children are showing great understanding of feelings through statue poses and discussion.

More pictures to follow as we develop understanding.
